My trusty old van, Otto, under surgery, again...
now at 540,523 kilometers
The rust started in this van long before I bought it, over 10 years ago. I've been patching it here and there for the past five or six years, although what it really needs it to be taken apart and done right!
BUT, in my desire to take a winter vacation, I needed to patch it one more time. Problem is, all the prior patch jobs were now riddled with rust beneath the patches, some literally falling off! So, I was forced to do a more extensive patch job to get through this winter. Hopefully, this summer will be the time it gets the real restoration it's been needing for years. So, here are some photos for those of you that have never seen what 'metal termites' can do to our beloved Vanagons. Yeah, it's really nasty and terrible and all that, but looks better at the end, doesn't it?
Keep your van clean, and watch out for the crazy salt spewing forth from snow plows!
